As engineering organisations scale, the infrastructure and platform teams that support product delivery become bottlenecks. Every new service needs a pipeline set up. Every environment request goes through a ticket queue. Every team has a slightly different way of deploying, monitoring, and managing their workloads. Platform engineering solves this by building an Internal Developer Platform - a curated set of self-service capabilities that abstract infrastructure complexity without removing control.

We design and build IDPs using Backstage as the developer portal, providing a single pane of glass for service discovery, documentation, dependency graphs, and self-service actions. Engineers can provision a new service, create a staging environment, rotate secrets, or kick off a deployment directly from the portal - without a ticket, without waiting for a platform team member, and without needing to understand the underlying infrastructure.

Golden path templates define the recommended way to build a new service: pre-configured repository structure, CI/CD pipeline, Kubernetes manifests, observability setup, and security policies - all wired together and compliant by default. Teams can follow the golden path or diverge when they have good reason to, but the path of least resistance leads to good practices.

Self-service infrastructure is implemented through Crossplane or internal Terraform modules exposed via the portal, with approval workflows and guardrails enforced through policy engines. Teams get what they need quickly while the platform team maintains oversight of what's running and how.

The result is a developer experience where the right way to build and deploy is also the easy way - reducing cognitive load, accelerating onboarding, and freeing platform engineers from repetitive support work.
